Race for the Cure 5k

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Salt Lake City Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community joining more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure® the Salt Lake City Affiliate has invested over $3 million in community breast health programs in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber Counties. Up to 75% of the net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in the Wasatch Front. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. This year my mom and I are honored to participate in the 2010 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k at the Gateway Mall in Salt Lake City. This is a cause very near and dear to our hearts. Many women in our lives have had and beat cancer. One of those women being my grandmother, Sharon Kay Sullivan. Although my grandmother passed away many years ago she has remained in our hearts forever and has continued to guide us through life. This year my mom and I will be racing in her memory! I urge you to participate in this worthy cause, together we can race for the cure!
